Lancaster Nightline is run by students for students, so we rely on a team of dedicated student volunteers to keep the service running – and that team could include you!
All volunteers go through a comprehensive training program before becoming enrolled in the service. Training is a great experience and a fantastic chance to meet new people and make new friends!
Do I need any prior experience?
No experience needed! The only requirements we ask of you is that you’re over 18, a current student at Lancaster University, and have a genuine passion to support your fellow students.
Can I put it on my CV?
For our Publicity Team volunteers, you can go right ahead and put it on your CV!
However, for our Call-Takers, it’s a little different. Volunteering as a call-taker for Nightline isn’t the flashiest of responsibilities – the nature of the service means that often the work we do goes unseen. We make sure our volunteers are fully supported and appreciated – however, we would ask that you don’t make your involvement with the service public until after you have left and are no longer volunteering for us. This is to make sure we can protect our core principles of anonymity and confidentiality!
Available Roles
Volunteer to be a Call-Taker
This is an anonymous role which will require you to commit to four night shifts per term, and will primarily involve answering calls, instant messages and emails between 10pm and 3am. For more details about this position, please email nladm@lancaster.ac.uk.

Volunteer with our Publicity Team
We are always looking for enthusiastic and innovative students to help us publicise Lancaster Nightline across campus, and bring the service to the forefront of student life!
This role is non-anonymous, and is about increasing Nightline’s presence on campus and student awareness of Lancaster Nightline’s valuable service. The main responsibility of the role is to keep the Lancaster Nightline name known within the University Campus; this will be achieved by working as a team to invent novel techniques to publicise the service at freshers fair, awareness events, and other cross-campus events.
